Vance Community Partners Veterans Music & Arts School is celebrating Black History Month. Independence String Ensemble will perform a First Sunday concert featuring works by African American composers who have shaped the course of music in the United States and around the world. The Centre Theater’s Director of Music and Vance Community Veterans Music School Director of Music, Steve Kramer is joined on stage by composer, violinist, and pianist, Michael Shingo Crawford. Listeners will be delighted by ragtime works by Scott Joplin, in their original form played by Michael Shingo Crawford on the piano, as well as a version arranged for the violin and cello duo. The program also showcases Michael's riveting arrangement of Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal.

The doors will open at 2:00 P.M with vendors, speakers and prizes. Followed by 1st Sunday music to beginning at 5:00 P.M.

The Kimmel Center Cultural Campus is proud to continue its ongoing partnership with Warrior Writers to present Traveling Outside the Wire, a free afternoon of intriguing poetry and performance. In honor of Veteran's Day, Traveling Outside the Wire will feature veterans sharing their artistic renditions of traveling related to basic training, deployments, post-military service and more.

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The man who spent decades in charge of Montgomery County detectives is starting an art and music school for veterans, first-responders and their kids. Oscar Vance was chief of Montgomery County detectives for 30 years, retiring in 2012. Through his Vance Community Partners, he's starting an arts and music school.

Oscar Vance, former chief county detective with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office is launching Vance Community Partners Veterans Music and Art School Tuesday, June 4th, 3 pm at the Vietnam Veterans and FOP memorial, Swede and Main streets in Norristown. After the launching of the school, a reception will be held until 5 pm at the Vance Community Partners headquarters, 216 Cherry Street. All are welcomed.
